According to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the number of sports-related injuries involving children ages 5 through 14 is 448,200 for football, 574,000 for basketball and 252,665 for baseball. More injuries were recorded in soccer, hockey, gymnastics and volleyball. To help youth with proper training and conditioning, as well as to address an increasing obesity rate in children, SportZal is launching two youth bootcamps for winter/spring 2012.

Many national and international orthopaedic surgeons and societies recommend preventing sports-related injuries with regular conditioning that incorporates exercises that are specifically designed for a sport.
SportZal will offer the following youth bootcamps:

1) Athletic Conditioning Youth Bootcamp, for youth aged 13 to 17. This camp will include an athletic enhancement training, strength and cardio training, core stabilization and flexibility training, speed and agility training, balance and resistance training and more.

2) Youth Fitness Bootcamp, for youth aged 13 to 17. This camp is designed for youth who are just starting their fitness regimen and who simply want to get in shape, build strength and shed a few pounds. This camp will include basic training, cardio and strength training, balance and resistance training, and more.

“SportZal is a corrective fitness studio. It is different from other fitness centers primarily because at SportZal, all classes are customized specifically for the teen. Prior to attending the class your teen will get a full-body assessment to evaluate his or her current fitness level and guaranty a correct placement. After assessment is done, we design a customized program that will suit your teen’s needs and fitness goals. Only then will he or she be allowed to start the training,” Tatiana Fedorova of SportZal said.

For more information about SportZal, view the company at www.sportzalus.com.

Health Fitness Designs, Inc. announces their Fit Executive Challenge to begin in February, 2012. This competition involves: (1) an initial comprehensive fitness test with goal setting February 6-18, (2) three-months to work towards goals, (3) a fitness re-test from May 7-19.

Scott Anspach, President of Health Fitness Designs, Inc. says “Competition can provide motivation and push us to perform at our highest level. That’s why we created the Fit Executive Challenge.” This challenge allows executives to compete against their peers, raise money for local non-profits and improve their health and fitness.

A portion of the registration fees will go to the Morrisville Community Fund and participants are encouraged to challenge other executives to beat their score and donate money to a favorite charity. As an example, Scott challenges all executives to beat his score and if someone does he will donate $500 to their charity of choice. If more than one beat him, the $500 will go to the top score.

The top scores and most improved will receive awards to include $1300.00 in gift certificates/services from Prosource Fitness, Lifesigns (complete physical) and Saladmaster cookware.

Few things are more frustrating than putting in countless hours at the gym only to find the weight still isn’t coming off and the trouble spots are looking as flabby as ever. If people could just see results from their efforts, it would be easier to stay motivated and lose pounds by the dozen. Fitness boot camps are one of the most popular trends in the health club industry today, due in large part to the amazing results people are reporting. One Chino Hills boot camp is reporting amazing results from their participants.

The Camp Boot Camp is scenic Chino Hills, California and is changing lives every day. Glenn lost 35 pounds and received praise from his doctor, who saw dramatic decreases in his cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Dave shed 80 pounds and learned to love a new class of food, but wished he had signed up with the Chino Hills boot camp years ago. Christina dropped 35 pounds, lost 24 inches, and lost 11 percent of her body fat in less than four months. After having twins, Lillian dropped 52 pounds and 32 inches for a total body transformation. Scott pushed himself the extra mile to lose another 12 pounds so he could get down to 15 percent body fat and see his abs for the first time.

Alejandra Font, one of the trainers at the Chino Hills boot camp, was once a participant of the program too. She explains, “After having my two kids, I decided I was ready to change my look for good… I had been on countless diets and did so many ineffective workouts before finally discovering how to make lasting changes to my body, without completely depriving myself.” After a few months of working with The Camp Boot Camp, she was able to shed excess pounds and tone up enough to win a fitness competition!

Chino Hills boot camp is for people of all shapes and sizes, all ages, and both genders. There are hour-long morning classes offered from 5 to 10 AM or hour-long evening classes from 4 to 7 PM. Unlike step aerobics or dance classes, the routines are very easy to follow, with longer sets and familiar movements like squats, lunges and jumping jacks. Yet, the trainers also throw a few curveballs too – obstacle courses and Bosu balance balls occasionally come out, and they even include fun team-building drills at times to make classes lively and dynamic.

“The basic premise behind our Chino Hills boot camp is to provide a 3-in-1 workout that includes cardio, resistance training and core conditioning to make the most of your exercise hour,” explains Sam Bakhtiar, Boot Camp Owner, Certified Personal Trainer, and Champion Bodybuilder. “We employ interval training in our workouts, so it’s not 100 percent intense the entire time; there are recovery periods, but studies show this type of workout is much more effective than working out at a steady pace for longer periods. Everything we do is based on science, which is why our program is so effective at blasting fat, building muscle and toning trouble spots.”

David Lloyd Leisure joins forces with Gold Challenge, the UK’s only Olympic and Paralympic sport-based charity challenge, to launch a bespoke initiative giving members a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run 100m on the Olympic Stadium track – while raising money for the children’s charity Right to Play.

Team Family Gold Challenge will give David Lloyd Leisure members the unique chance to test themselves in five new sports while raising money for a great cause – with the highest fundraisers having the chance to win a race place on the Olympic track where the world’s top athletes will compete in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Europe’s premier health, sports and leisure group has joined forces with leading international humanitarian and development charity, Right To Play and official London 2012 legacy project, Gold Challenge, to stage the exciting initiative featuring fencing, canoeing, judo, archery and sailing.

The highest fundraisers come March 2012 will have the chance to win the money-can’t-buy prize of taking part in a nine-lane 4x100m relay on the Olympic Stadium track on April 1. The race is due to be watched by a crowd of 20,000 people, including family and friends, and will serve as the key test event for the greatest show on Earth, the Olympics.

David Lloyd Leisure is currently the sole members-only organisation to work with Gold Challenge to create a bespoke challenge, which will take place in clubs across the UK from March to July.

During what will be a unique year, the group aims to give its members as many opportunities as possible to try out some different sports which they might not have experienced.

Members can choose from two options – a five-sport challenge (fencing, canoeing, judo, archery and sailing) or three sports (judo, archery and sailing) – and will receive three hours’ coaching in each sport from top experts in their fields.

For those taking part in Team Family Gold Challenge, there is also a chance to win 30 places in an Olympic Stadium parade on April 1 plus an opportunity to buy early bird tickets to the test event, which will be attended by Team GB legends, celebrity ambassadors and representatives from over 150 UK charity partners to recognise the achievements of those taking part in Gold Challenge.

David Lloyd Leisure’s chief executive, Scott Lloyd, said: “This is a great opportunity for our members to have lots of fun learning some new sports, while supporting a fantastic cause. What’s more, our highest fundraisers will be given the incredible opportunity to race on the Olympic Stadium track and be part of all the excitement.”

Gold Challenge chairman Dan Thompson said: “I’m thrilled that we are working in partnership with David Lloyd Leisure to create the programme, Team Family Gold Challenge. The initiative is a fantastic opportunity for David Lloyd members of all ages to get involved and feel a part of London 2012, whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause, Right To Play.”

Right To Play chief executive Johann Olav Koss, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, added: “As a charity born out of the Olympics we are incredibly excited about next year. We have been part of the Gold Challenge initiative from the beginning and are very happy that David Lloyd Leisure is now involved. All three organisations’ core values are around sport and health; therefore this looks to be a fantastic partnership.”

Putting on a few extra pounds is quite normal and you be able to carry a little weight without too much trouble. However, if you start getting too overweight, it may be time to start thinking about healthy eating and exercise to lose weight.

There seems to be new fad diets that come out every day. They all make bogus claims and the most particular one is that it is the easiest diet ever. All you need to do is follow some magical plan of eating the right food at the right time. It is possible that you can lose weight by following these diets but it’s not because of the gimmick that plan uses.

There is actually only one way to lose weight: burn more calories than you take in. Every fad diet is nothing more than a clever variation on this simple fact. They will usually go out of their way to hide it. This way they can suck more people in by tricking them to believe that the fad diet is offering something new. That’s not to say all diets are bad and a lot of them really work. They are even designed for long term but it’s still a case of taking in fewer calories than you burn.

This all comes down to exercise and healthy eating on a regular basis. It is possible to lose weight by watching what you eat or exercising alone but you will have to work much harder to see results. This can be discouraging and you may stop trying to lose weight if you don’t lose a certain amount of weight in a specific period of time. Keep in mind that 3,500 calories equals one pound and if you can lose an extra 500 calories per day, you can lose a pound every week. On the other hand, if you take in 500 fewer calories per day through proper diet and burn 500 more calories with exercise, you can lose 2 pounds per week. That’s over 100 pounds in one year!

It doesn’t matter which particular diet or exercise programs you follow (as long as they are not too crazy). Remember to check with your doctor before you start any diet or exercise program to lose weight to make sure it is safe. Once you get started you will be amazed at how fast the pounds disappear.

These days, it feels like maintaining fitness over 40 is more and more challenging, With sexy Hollywood stars in their forties and beyond having plastic surgery, Botox injections, liposuction, and other new procedures, it is no surprise that people feel pressured to look their best at any age.

The good news is, the newest way to maintain fitness over 40 doesn’t come out of a bottle, and is not administered intravenously. No needles, no drugs, and no rigorous, time consuming exercise programs that have users spending more time at the gym than with friends and family.

A new program, Happy and Fit Over 40, has been developed with everyday people in mind. People who don’t have thousands of dollars to invest in the latest technological breakthroughs in plastic surgery and pills are discovering that regaining a youthful and fit appearance and, more importantly, feeling better than ever, really are things that are within reach of everyday people.

Is Fitness Over 40 Possible?
There are two common problems many people who are either approaching or beyond their fortieth birthdays tend to experience. First of all, metabolism tends to stall, leading to expanding waistlines and lower energy levels – two problems that each serve to make the other worse.

Secondly, as people begin feeling older, it’s sometimes too easy to stop worrying about the way that you look. Gaining weight, lower energy levels and diminishing sensual acuity are often thought of as natural signs of aging. Giving in to this kind of thinking can have a very negative impact on long term health. Instead of just letting nature take it’s course, say “Yes” to life by maintaining fitness over 40.

The benefits of the Happy and Fit Over 40 program include.

No chemicals. Instead, the program promotes ways to harness all that nature has to offer, to regain energy and feel more alive.

Knowledge: Knowledge is power. There is no need to spend months to learn about the 9 different topics covered in this program. The experts featured in Happy and Fit Over 40 have done the research and compiled a wealth of information that can help teach how to detoxify and rebuild body systems, supercharge metabolism, boost immune function, and melt inches of fat.

Mental function may very well increase as toxins that cause feelings of depression and lowered self-confidence are released.

Less aches and pains. Say goodbye to stiffness and sore joints, neck pain and muscle aches, leg cramps and backaches – all those things associated with “getting older.”

Other benefits to the program include learning how to increase resistance to degenerative diseases commonly associated with aging, such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, depression, arthritis, and more. With plenty of comprehensive information, this new anti-aging “tool kit” is something that helps maintain fitness over 40.

Fitness over 40 is a cinch with the right program. Visit http://healthwellnessconnection.com for more information.

The holiday season is upon us, which makes it prime time for toy buying. In fact, more than half of the three billion toys and games sold in the United States each year are purchased at Christmastime. And while the majority of toys are safe, thanks in part to stronger federal rules and higher standards from toy makers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that in 2010 alone more than 180,000 U.S. children were treated in hospital emergency departments for toy-related injuries.

“Toys have changed over the years and the assortment can be astounding, particularly to those who haven’t shopped for kids in a while,” said Rebecca Kynes, a child advocate at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. “Child safety, however, never goes out of style. It is something parents and family members should always keep in mind when selecting gifts for youngsters.”

Kynes notes that appropriate selection and proper use of toys, combined with parental supervision, can greatly reduce the incidence and severity of toy-related injuries. When selecting gifts this holiday season, be sure to:

Choose toys suitable to the child’s age, interest and skill level. “Age labels are for safety reasons and not intended as developmental ratings,” said Kynes. “If a package indicates the toy isn’t suitable for children under 3, it doesn’t mean that your 2-year-old won’t be able to figure out how to play with the toy, but rather that the toy has small parts or sharp pieces that could injure a younger child.”

Skip toys with small magnetic pieces for any child under age 6 or under age 10 if they have younger siblings who could easily access the pieces.

Look for well-made toys.

Avoid toys that produce loud noises. High-volume games can permanently impair a child’s hearing, and loud sounds can frighten a younger child.

Avoid toys painted with lead paint. Exposure to lead can result in lead poisoning, causing serious damage to a child’s brain, kidneys and nervous system.

Avoid electrical toys with heating elements (batteries, electrical plugs) for children under the age of 8. These toys are a potential burn hazard.

Avoid toys with strings, straps or cords longer than 7 inches, which can wrap around a child’s neck and accidentally strangle him or her.

Immediately discard plastic wrappings on toys before they become dangerous play things for young children.

Kynes adds that riding toys should not be used near stairs, traffic or swimming pools, and that parents can use the cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper to identify small toy parts that are potential choking hazards. “Small children should not play with anything that can fit into one of these cylinders.”

A Gift is Not Complete Unless Proper Protective Gear is Included
Bicycles, skates, scooters and skateboards are popular gifts for the holidays, but if children lack the proper protective gear or skills, injury and death can occur. To keep kids safe whenever they “wheel” around, be sure to:

Include a helmet as part of a gift, which according to Safe Kids USA, can reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 percent and the risk of brain injury as much as 88 percent.

Buy stickers or bike reflectors and use them on the front, sides and back of the bike to increase the child’s visibility to drivers.

Buy a bike horn or a bell as a stocking stuffer. This tool is essential for warning motorists and pedestrians of a bicyclist’s approach.

Don’t forget to buy elbow and knee pads as well as wrist guards for skates and skateboards.

Kids sometimes are reluctant to wear protective gear, insisting that they are good riders or complain that none of their friends wear them. But Kynes urges parents to resist that temptation, and notes “requiring children to wear a helmet every time, everywhere they go, is the best thing you can do to protect them.”

The 23rd Annual Death Valley Trail Marathon & 30K will be held on the 3rd of December at 8am. The venue of this event will be at the Titus Canyon, Death Valley California.

This scenic wilderness trail run is on a gravel jeep road from Beatty, NV through the picturesque Titus Canyon, finishing in Death Valley (entire run is in Death Valley National Park). The desert is beautiful this time of year with mild temperatures; lows at night between 30 and 40 degrees and highs during the day from the low-60s to mid-70s. This is one of the most spectacular trail event of the year and well worth the weekend away. Truly, an experience one won’t forget. The event is limited to 300 participants and sells out months in advance so don’t wait too long to register!

After a 21-year history of taking place in early February, this event has been moved to this December date.
